For potential employees to be effectively and efficiently drawn towards a company an accurate and updated job description is necessary. An accurate and updated job description is needed because the company needs to draw in the type of potential employees that fit in with the company’s organizational needs, mission, and the workforce plan. Job analysis makes up the basis of job descriptions. It is during the job analysis that the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics needed for a job are determined. (Job Analysis 2024) In addition to this job design is also crucial because job design is where companies can focus on how tasks are structured so that they can design positions so that efficiency, effectiveness, and morale can be optimized. Some companies struggle to keep job descriptions accurate over time as industries, culture, and needs within the company change over time. This could be because of legal changes, changes in competition, changes in people’s attitude, or just from a company evolving as time passes. This is why it is important for job descriptions to be updated in accordance with workforce planning that takes all the factors listed above into account. Additionally, it is crucial that potential employees see that the position that they are considered is meaningful and will give them work that matters. If a description is out of date and obsolete it will give the potential employee, the idea that the position is not one that will provide them with meaningful work. At the end of the day the employees of the company are what will be the difference between a company succeeding or failing. For a company to be successful, the right people need to be brought into the right positions. Updated job descriptions could be the difference between a company being made up of employees that excel and drive a company towards success and a company that falls short of where it needs to be.
