Vay (Vershawn Ashanti Young) will be delivering a\u00a0talk\u00a0that describes ways that teachers and the public in both Canada and the USA have misappropriated the linguistic concept of code-switching as it applies\u00a0to both Black language and Standard language speakers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attendees can expect to learn: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>How race is related to writing instruction&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>How to exploit the best culturally relevant literacy tools to boost academic instruction in writing\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Three lessons to explore and incorporate code meshing into literacy instruction&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">February 25 &#8211; <strong>Workshop: Code-Meshing, Code-Switching, and Black Standard English: Implications for Classroom Writers\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Workshop will be held from 12pm-1:30pm PST<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This OSU-exclusive workshop given by dr. Vay (Vershawn Ashanti Young) has three goals for its attendees: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Identify and describe prevailing models of writing\/literacy instruction in relation to code meshing and identify your own.\u00a0<\/li><li>Revise your model of literacy instruction to support code-meshing and explain why code meshing is beneficial to students.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>Create a Black Body Acknowledgement that supports your current\/present positive and supportive stance on code meshing.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>dr.
