OSU students face housing scramble: Rentals scarce, but some beds remain on campus.
Posted September 7th, 2011 by hansene[The Gazette Times. (September 7, 2011)] – This fall’s freshman class of Oregon State University will be about the same as last year, but if those students haven’t lined up on-campus housing, they’re facing stiff competition for off-campus rentals.
Bob Loewen, the housing program specialist for the city of Corvallis, said the rental vacancy rate is around a half of 1 percent. International students, newly enrolled graduate students and students who moved away during the summer are expected to drive that vacancy rate even lower. <more>

It seems that the problem with scarcity of of student housing is a general trend at most universities. We are trying to address this at our local university with a website aimed at creating a platform for easy interaction between role players in our local student accommodation market. Thus far we received a lot of interest.

We are using a Facebook Fan Page as a method to interact with student and it is quickly gaining momentum. Lots of students already visited the page and made entries regarding their housing needs.
