One training I found very beneficial was a summer job I had two summers ago when working as a general utility worker in a large kitchen. My training was a week long and I had a supervisor during the entirety of the shift. The training was so beneficial because the supervisor was able to communicate very effectively and was successfully able to show me all the most critical parts of the job. Another reason for the successful training was because of an interactive and engaging format. The supervisor actively showed me the position and how the job was properly done. Along with this, the supervisor gave personalized feedback which helped me understand what I could improve on and what I was doing poorly at. Another reason this training was so successful is because our manager and supervisors would have weekly training sessions with the team and would have checkups on crew members. This allowed employees to give feedback when needed and allow them to ask for help when needed. Our company has weekly special events and we needed to get trained for new responsibilities. The managers and supervisors were trained in this area and were able to train me and coworkers in minimal time.
A time when I had a very poor training experience was during my summer internship. The reason for this is that my manager was very engaged and did not care for the training. This led to me asking a lot of questions and made the first few weeks of the job very difficult. Along with this, I received very limited follow-up support and was unable to know if I was doing my job correctly or not. Another reason for the poor training experience was that a majority of the material I was receiving was very broad and generic material. This resulted in a majority of the material to have limited relevance in my position at the moment. when needed and allow them to ask for help when needed.
