My name is Joseph Caswell. I’m a student at Oregon State University studying computer science. I previously studied at Purdue University, graduated with a degree in civil engineering, and worked as a civil engineer for about a year. This past summer I interned with Walmart Labs as a SWE Intern.

I’m originally from Tallahassee, FL, but have lived in various places like West Lafayette (IN), Charlotte, Baton Rouge, Greenville (SC), and Singapore. I enjoy getting outside and being active whether it be weightlifting, hiking, playing sports, or fishing. I’m a diehard FSU fan as well, Go Noles!

I decided to switch to computer science because I felt stagnant as a civil engineer. The field doesn’t really change; once you’ve done something once, you’ll be doing pretty much the same thing again, and again. This is the opposite of what I enjoy, I enjoy challenging myself by learning new things constantly, and I found that in software engineering. Coding is also just fun and challenging in general.

My internship with Walmart was my first taste in the field and it confirmed that I made the right decision. I went from *really* not looking forward to work everyday, to actually really excited to work on the next challenge. It’s so important to find something you relatively enjoy doing, and I found that. I’m excited for what’s to come.

Hello world!
