They are now putting out bi-weekly &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/covid.oregonstate.edu\/keep-teaching#tips\">Timely Teaching Tips<\/a>&#8221; with new ideas for you to consider implementing in your classes and timely reminders to help keep both faculty and students as engaged as possible while we&#8217;re remote. Here is a list of recorded training sessions as well as the Timely Teaching Tips for weeks 4 &amp; 5! I especially like the reminder to solicit mid-term teaching feedback (you can set up a non-grading, anonymous survey using the &#8220;quiz&#8221; feature in Canvas), how students can set up remote study groups, and the instructions for creating rubrics to grade work submitted through Canvas. For smaller classes, you may be able to ask students to complete short essay assignments, or have students \u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/oregonstate.teamdynamix.com\/TDClient\/1935\/Portal\/KB\/ArticleDet?ID=68842&amp;SIDs=5336\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">record short oral presentations<\/a> \u202f(e.g., recording on Zoom or with Kaltura Capture).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>You could also consider a \u201ctake-home\u201d version of your existing midterm. In this case,\u202fconsider setting up a File Upload assignment\u202fand\u202fasking students to justify their answers in writing to help protect academic integrity.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/docs\/DOC-12774-415255021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canvas\u202fSpeedGrader<\/a>\u202f can be used to view and grade student work submitted through Canvas.<\/li>\n<li>Attaching a \u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/docs\/DOC-12861-4152724129\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canvas rubric<\/a> \u202fto an assignment can increase the efficiency and consistency of the grading process of Canvas\u202fassignments, quizzes, and discussions. It also spells out your expectations for student work.<\/li>\n<li>If you wish to hide grades from students while you are grading, see \u202f\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/oregonstate.teamdynamix.com\/TDClient\/1935\/Portal\/KB\/ArticleDet?ID=88897\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hiding and posting grades in Canvas<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>COMMUNICATE WITH STUDENTS WHO MAY BENEFIT FROM ADDITIONAL SUPPORT:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Invite students to attend \u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/oregonstate.teamdynamix.com\/TDClient\/1935\/Portal\/KB\/ArticleDet?ID=83476\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">your office hours in Zoom<\/a>\u202f or set up an individual Zoom meeting. The Academic Success Center offers \u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/success.oregonstate.edu\/office-hours-effectively\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">guidance for students<\/a>\u202f on making effective use of remote office hours; share this link in a Canvas announcement.<\/li>\n<li>Consider customizing and sending one of these \u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/success.oregonstate.edu\/sites\/success.oregonstate.edu\/files\/sample_individualized_email_and_canvas_messages.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sample individualized email and Canvas messages<\/a> \u202ffrom OSU\u2019s Academic Success Center to support students who may be having difficulties.
