For this weeks thoughts we had a chance to read through the “2020 Fortune Best Companies to Work for”. I decided to randomly scroll through the list and see what I found. The people that worked for Capital One were happy that the company allowed them to be individuals. Adobe systems apparently delivers on their claims about soft benefits and the work/life balance, and BayCare Health workers claims that the leadership really wants everyone to be successful and has a great orientation.

I think that one of the biggest things that stuck with me in the reading this week was an example where a woman had started at a company and a year later was a great worker, but was leaving and even pointed out that she was the only one left from when she started. In her example the leadership was the issue, she wasn’t a fan of her manager and in the examples shown above, i think those provide great examples of how they’ve placed the right people in the right spots for the leadeship role. For instance, in the BayCare example, the leadership cares and they make sure that they’re trained as expected and efficiently such that new employees felt welcome. These are things that a worker wants. It’s nice when your manager is supportive.

This goes along with the “being and individual”. Knowing what you have and giving them the proper direction, but not forcing them in a particular direction lets the worker be comfortable and work how they work best which makes the employee happy, more productive, and thus the company a better place.

Lastly, delivering on promises is huge. It’s one thing to say that you’re going to do something, but it’s entirely different when you deliver on those promises as best as you can. This shows how the company has put forth a plan to manage their employees well and make it a trusting work environment. No one wants false promises from anyone, especially their employer.

Bear with me on this journey that is a “blog” as this is my first.
