I have about five weeks left to deliver my alpha version of the Mobile Treasure Hunt game (titled “Treasure Trek”) and the journey thus far has been a fun and rewarding one. The image above is a screenshot from my Android emulator for the “StartPage” of the game, where I used Midjourney to describe the image I wanted. This page is what users will see when they first launch Treasure Trek. It depicts four friends on a grand treasure hunting adventure looking at an expansive cityscape (reminds me of Manhattan, and I love this as a kid from NY) with a small message under the game title stating, “discover hidden gems.” My hope with this initial page is to grab the user’s attention, give them an idea of what to expect with the game, and pull them in to engage with Treasure Trek.

It’s been such a rewarding journey so far. I’ve enjoyed the entire process from setting up my app and tying it up with Firebase, implementing Read and Update operations, and incorporating Midjourney for asset generation. The degree to which I chose to apply ChatGPT in my workflow is going quite nicely as well. My plan was (and continues to be) to write code myself and employ GPT-4 as my tech lead and mentor to review my code and answer any questions about my process.

My teammates (Sophia Cai and Alec Temes) have been awesome assets, and I’m so lucky that I got placed on a team with such talented and intelligent humans. We are using Discord for our daily communication, and we are all responsive and communicate early and often about anything that comes up. We are adhering to our established Team Standards and that’s no surprise to me because Alec and Sophia are both professional and supportive in all our communications. The only change my team made from the original plan was to forego an iOS app and develop each of our versions on Android. Sophia and I are building our Android app on Flutter, while Alec is developing exclusively on Android Studio. I believe all three versions of our mobile treasure hunt game will be a success.

Treasure Trek is on track to succeed as per our initial expectations from the Milestone Calendar. For the remainder of the term, I’ll be adding Create and Delete operations, researching Material guidelines, and implementing a brand identity for Treasure Trek. As a team, we’ll continue to communicate any blockers we have and help each other out if needed. I’m looking forward to finishing out the second half of this term strongly alongside my teammates.

Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next time 🙂

We’re building momentum!
