My personal journey in completing my CS degree and finishing my capstone project at OSU
Hi all,
I believe in the less is more approach when consuming information so I will try to keep my blog posts short and straight to the point. This first post will just be some background information and how I got to this point in my CS career.
Background information:
– Graduated in 2017 with B.S in biology from UCLA and worked as a microbiologist for 4 years. Soon after covid started I decided I wanted a career change and started my first quarter at OSU in January of 2021.
– In August of 2022 I started my first job as a software engineer at Optum where I worked on a fullstack application that leveraged frameworks and languages such as Typescript, Java, Spring, Angular, and Cypress.
– However due to some new company policies my contract was not renewed/ I was not converted. So in June of 2023 I was let go and am now currently finishing up my degree at OSU and looking for new employment.
Choosing a Capstone Project:
– Following the ed discussion post by the professor. I took a look at most of the industry projects with a fellow classmate that I had previously taken another class with before and after reviewing most of the projects we settled on 6 that seemed of interest to us.
– My main interests lie in web development since that is what I have the most experience in, but I think learning many new technologies and being flexible is a key skill that all software engineers should have.
