I myself going into these tests knew that I was already a very stressed person. Little did I know that the way I cope with my stress is not always the most productive way for myself and my health. For example, in the first stress survey going through each of the categories shows really how much I myself have gone through in the last year let alone the last 23 years of my life come to think of it. I scored a 224 on the first survey and when I went to go look at it, the subtext states that about a 50% chance of major health breakdown in the next two years. I was not able to access the link for the second link for the coping and stress management link. Finally, for the third survey for Type A personality survey I scored a 58 on the survey which indicated that I use problem-focused strategies to cope with stress. This is seen as not the most effective strategy for coping with stress. Some strategies that I can take into my professional career for developing strategies for stress is for me walking away from the situation to get a better mindset rather than just forcing myself into finding a solution quickly. Another is simply just taking a deep breath and delving into the situation. If I force myself to keep working through the problem it almost always turns for the worst. Organizations are trying to find a healthy way to divert stress away from the workplace. One is subsidizing gym memberships for employees. In fact, at the company, I am working at they are building a gym inside for employees to use. I personally think using fitness as a way to cope with stress is the best idea to decrease stress. Another big technique is the use of open communication inside the workplace. If the right people do not know the problems their employees are facing, how will they know how to help and reach out? The best stress mechanism is to be upfront and open with the stress that an employee is going through.
