The life stress inventory, coping and stress management test, and personality survey gave me useful information on my personality type and stress management techniques. In the life stress inventory, I had a normal score of 20. This number made sense to me for what I have experienced in the last year. I found it interesting how the survey associated numerical values to stressful life incidents.
The free coping and stress management test only offered slight insight on my personalized test. I scored a 52 on the problem focused coping scale. Sometimes I use problem-focused strategies in order to cope with stress. However, these methods are generally ineffective in situations I can’t control. I notice myself worrying about things I can’t control quite often. For example, after I have taken an exam and don’t know my score, I can’t think about anything else for a short period.
In the free personality test, I scored a 27 on impatience and irritability. In most interactions, I am characterized by warmth and tolerance, but in some I am occasionally tinged with impatience and hostility. When I consider my actions, I would say this is a generally good description of myself. In most situations I am calm, however some interactions can cause me to be impatient and sometimes a bit hostile.
In my career, stress will be common and is something I am well aware of. I think the most important thing to remember is to try and stay calm and work with your team to manage stress with work. I found a online video on stress management from the company I work for. The employee is advocating for yoga as a physical activity and a stress management tool. This video shows me that the company considers stress of their employees and care about how they feel at work.
