Stress, Coping, & Personality

Based on the Life Stress Inventory questions I ended up with a score that was a 155. This isn’t too surprising to me as a lot has happened this year. Overall goal is to keep it below that as a I do not want a future illness to arise, but for now I do see this quite accurate as I have found myself really stressed out these last couple of months.

When it comes to coping with stress, I come out to be a problem-based coping. This test determined that this method is ineffective when dealing with problems I can’t control. I found this to be true because earlier on in life I found myself struggling in trying to control situations that were impossible for me to deal with, thus leading me to stress out and have anxiety. Even today I struggle with this, but I try improving on it every day. According to Psychology Today there are many ways to improve the way you manage stress one being improving planning, reframing the situation, learning to relax, etc.

When it came to my personality, I came out with Type A. This means I am impatient and irritable, and I found this to be true as I see it a lot in my family where our patience runs slow. This is seen more when I am stressed out. These test more reinforced what I already thought I had about myself because I’ve always known I have a lot of stress, and when I’m stressed out I because really impatient, but at the end of the day I’m working on better stress management
