Workplace Health Issues: Stress

As of right now I don’t seem to be stressed out with work, school or life. In terms of school, knowing that I will graduate this term has really helped in taking weight of my shoulders. I don’t have to think about what classes to take next year and how I am going to pay for my school expenses. For these past years I think school has been the main contributor to my stress, so right now I’m feeling a sense of relief. After taking the three tests provided by the instructor I think that they are quite accurate with my current situation. On the Life Stress Inventory test I scored really low a 44. I think that this is really accurate. I haven’t had many abrupt changes recently or in the past years. I am also still fairly young and just started to work in my chosen career, so a lot of these questions did not apply to me. On my Coping and Stress Management Skills test I got a 53. This means that I am problem-focused when solving problems. I agree with this assessment. When faced with stress I tend to try to control the stress by seeking information and assistance or by just removing myself from the stressful situation. On my Type A Personality test I scored a 33 for irritability. This means that I sometimes get frustrated with things around me but not always. I also tend to stew my anger and frustration inside me.

Now a days companies are putting more effort to distress their employees. Decreasing stress in the workplace according to Harvard Business Review falls under two categories workplace environment and employee engagement. Under workplace environment organizations are allowing flexible hours and remote working, promoting work-life balance and even implementing walking meetings and natural breaks. Under employee engagement companies are trying to encourage more social activity, provide onsite or distance counseling and recognize employees.
