OSU Capstone Part 3

So far, the capstone project is going quite well. It’s been interesting and challenging to learn new technologies and apply them to creating our “Modular Quoting System” app.

One of the keys to the success of our project so far has been good communication. Microsoft Teams has proven to be an effective communication tool for us. We have two stand-ups scheduled a week, and we keep in touch regularly in the time between our standup meetings. This has helped us quickly identify blockers and figure out solutions.

Another tool that has been an essential for tracking our progress is Asana. It’s flexible and easy to set up, which has allowed us to make changes to how we are organizing our workflow as needed throughout the quarter. Asana is also a good visual reference during our standup meetings so everyone can see what they have accomplished, and what their next tasks are.

Building, debugging, and deploying the app have been going well overall. However, since some of the technologies we are using are using are new to me, I have had to do a lot of debugging of my own code. My teammates have been very helpful and have given me some good constructive criticism in their code reviews. Personally, I feel slightly behind in my part of the project. However, I have blocked out some time this weekend to make a big push to get a large portion of my part of the project’s UI finished and tested.

One thing that would help our team succeed would be if we were collaborating with a client on the project. Since our project is not one of the industry projects, there are no actual stakeholders for us to get feedback or guidance from. We’re doing the best we can to create and app that could theoretically be useful for a small business, but it would be interesting to show the app to some potential users when it’s finished and get their feedback.
