This job in particular was at Ulta Beauty, during my sophomore year of college, I was needing a part time job at the time to make some extra money; when I was busy with in person classes. I started my search knowing that I wanted to work somewhere that I actually enjoyed, and would be a good use of my spare time. I had a passion for makeup, therefore I thought Ulta Beauty would be the perfect place for me to get a part time job, so I applied! The application starts online, and if they consider you they call you to set up an in person interview. I got a call a few weeks later, and I set up a time to interview with them. To conclude my experience with this interview; I found it to be moderately unprofessional, and a bit non-inclusive. The interview was unprofessional in the manner that we had the interview in the middle of the store, while people were shopping around us; customers even interrupting (not knowing an interview was taking place). It was a very odd setting, with so much commotion going on around us it was very hard to concentrate and remain professional. It seemed non-conclusive in the aspect that I was told employees were expected to look their best with a full face of makeup on everyday, no matter how long your shift was. Although this is a makeup store, I feel it is far-fetched that employees are expected to do a full face of makeup everyday, I mean are we that ugly with out it? I was also asked questions during the interview that I feel didn’t pertain to my character, such as what is my favorite makeup brand? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Due to the nature of this interview, my experience during the job application process shaped my impression of this job in a negative way, and lowered my desire to work there. Not only did the non important questions, far-fetched expectations, and location of the interview turn me off from wanting to work at this place; but the nature of the people working there did too. Almost all of the employees were not friendly, and were incredibly stuck up; including mostly the boss\/manager. I wish I had higher expectations at that point in my life for a job, but that was not the case then. I now know how to spot these red flags better, and wish I would have looked more into them before actually taking this job. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Based on my experience from the perspective of the applicant for the last job in which I applied for, I noticed a few red flags that I wish I would have considered more before taking the job.
