MGMT 448 / Week 7 – Blog Post: IPIP Results & Reactions

Based on the 5 dimensions of personality, what the results I scored on the test say about my personality is that under the extraversion category I scored an 8, which is low indicating that I am an introvert, reserved, and quiet. I enjoy solitude and solitary activities, and socializing tends to be restricted to close friends. Under the agreeableness category I scored a 1, meaning that the score is low and I indicate less concern for others needs than with my own. People see me as tough, critical, and uncompromising. Under the conscientiousness category I scored a 82, meaning that I set clear goals and pursue them with determination. People regard me as reliable, and hardworking. Under the neuroticism category I scored a 96, indicating that I am easily upset, even by what most people consider normal demands of living. People consider me sensitive and emotional. Under the openness category I scored a 1, meaning that I like to think in plain and simple terms. Others describe me as down to earth, practical, and conservative.

A potential employer looking at these results might say my strengths might be being able to follow and stick to a strict plan or rules. Which is always advised in the workplace, no employer likes someone who bends the rules. Another strength may be that I scored extremely high in the conscientiousness category which to an employer will show that I am a goal follower, and I pursue them with great determination. This also shows I am hard working, reliable, and follow through with my plans. Moving onto what an employer might say my weaknesses are include being introverted, which is in general more challenging in the workplace. Another weakness may include that I have less concern for others needs than my own; which is undesirable in a management or leadership position. I also scored very high on the neuroticism category which is a negative trait because I can be easily bothered by things that others may not be bothered by. I am not very open to new experiences which is another negative trait in the workplace, which a potential employer may see as a weakness.

  1. Hi Stevie, first of all, thank you for sharing your result of IPIP test that evaluating those 5 dimensions of personality as well as your perspective toward the result. Based on your post, you can be categorized as a person who is more comfortable or tend to find a quality time with yourself and very selective in choosing your close friends. I do agree with being selective in choosing close friends because our environment and the close people around us will reflect of who we really are. Because if there is no uncommon thing between us then one of the parties will tend to follow another one and forget their own habits. Also, for openness to experience segment that you can be categorized as average means that afraid of trying something new. I got more or less the same result and I do believe that there is a reason for that. Because for me personally, I am afraid of trying something new or outside from the zone that I am already familiar with is risky and maybe will give me domino effect. However, we are beautiful as we are and we should be grateful of our lives, maybe not all things that we face are met our desires, but I do believe everything will be beautiful in its time.

  2. Stevie,

I think you did a great job explaining your potential strengths and weaknesses based on the results of the test. I think that testing high in the conscientiousness category says a lot about what drives a potential employee. We have a common saying in athletics that you’d rather have a hard worker than a skilled player because you won’t have to motivate them. You know what kind of effort you will get out of them and that level of consistency is what you strive for.

    Great post
    Seth
