Scenario:
You come across a news article reporting that your favorite company was faced with a public lawsuit in which they were accused of widespread discrimination against individuals from an ethnicity, culture, or belief system you associate with.
Response:
If my favorite company was faced with a public lawsuit in which they were accused of widespread discrimination against individuals who were from a certain ethnicity, culture, or belief system in which I am associated with; it would change how I feel about this company. The outstanding claims of discrimination would change how I felt about this company, even though I tend to stay pretty neutral when it comes to touchy subjects such as this. I would not agree with how the company chose to discriminate publicly about this, and would likely feel bad about supporting this company and what they believe in. In terms of if their discriminations would influence my decisions to support this company, I would certainly shy away from it at first; but if this company sold products that were the best in the market; I would likely still choose to purchase these products; like I have in the past. While I would likely still support this company in terms of still purchasing their products, it would 100% change whether or not I would apply to work for this company in the future. I would without a doubt not work for a company that I knew was against me from the beginning. I feel I would only be setting myself up for failure if I were to apply to a company who compromised their reputation in order to discriminate whatever category I resonated with. If the company could publicly do that, what do you think they could do to employees behind closed doors? It would not be a great environment to try to succeed in. Therefore, I would never work for a company who discriminated against my beliefs; but as a consumer I might still support the company in terms of buying their products.
