Admissions I-20 Process – Bank Statement Requirements
- The bank statement/letter needs to be issued on official letterhead and include the date the account was opened, the current balance in liquid funds, name of sponsor, and the date the statement/letter was issued.
- The account holder’s name must match the name listed on the Affidavit of Support.
- The bank statement/ letter does not need to be signed/sealed by a bank official.
- The bank statement/ letter needs to be issued within 3 months from the time of application.
- Unacceptable financial documents include bank deposit slips, stock holdings, life insurance or mortgage policies, employment letters, and lines of credit.
- The evidence of funding may be US or non-US based. Applicants with US-based funding sources may have a more difficult visa interview since non-immigrant intent may be harder to prove.
