When taking a look into some of the largest companies in the United States, it is most important to look at what the employees of these very companies have to say about their work environments. Companies are only as good as the employees that work for them, and employees work best when they work for a company that values and treats them with respect. The three companies I chose to take a look at were Cisco, Capitol One, and Navy Federal Credit Union. All three of these companies say 88% or more of their employees say that it is a great place to work. Let’s take a look into each one as to why the employees say this.

Cisco is a tech company based out of San Jose, CA and have about 38,557 employees. Out of these roughly 38,500 employees, 94% say that Cisco is a great place to work. Employees go on to say that they are able to take time off when it is necessary, they felt welcome when joining the team, and the management at Cisco is honest and ethical. In 2025 they were voted as 3rd best Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For.

Capital One is a financial service and insurance provider based out of McLean, VA and have 44,934 employees. Out of their employees, 88% say that Capital One is a great place to work. The employees say they are proud to work there and are given a lot of responsibility. Words such as diversity, health, time, and culture are used by employees when they go on to explain Captial One. Capital One is ranked 36 in the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For.

Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) is also a financial service and insurance provider, and they are based out of Vienna, VA. NFCU has a company size of 23,982 employees and 89% say that NFCU is a great place to work. Employees feel good about the way the company contributes to society, and they use words like members, team, opportunities, and care when talking about the company. Ranked 74 in the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For, NFCU is ranked 38 places behind Capital One and yes 1% more of employees say it’s a great place to work. This could be contributed to by the smaller employee force making the company feel more like family.

I am a construction engineer management major with hopes of one day becoming a project manager. When I think about what it takes to be a good manager, traits such as leader, empathetic, understanding, driven, humble, and honest fill my mind. I believe a good leader leads by example and is never too proud to take on task or to help out other employees, no matter how small or how simple. I think some aspects of a manager’s job is managing the people. Everyone is different and handles situation or takes on stress differently. I believe it is the hardest part, but also the most important as a manager to be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with each individual employee.
