After taking a couple different tests that revolve around personality traits and stress, I have come to learn more about myself than I had before. All the resulting information I was provided with following the tests I found to make a lot of sense and help me understand how I deal with situations in life.
Results
Through the specific test of “Coping & Stress Management Skill Test”, I have come to learn that I am good at dealing with situation in which the problem or stressor can be changed. Unfortunately, when it comes to situations in which they cannot be controlled or changed, I am not good at coping with or understanding the situation to the same degree. This specific coping method or strategy is known as Problem-Focused.
When looking at the specific test results from the “Type A Personality Test”, I came across some unsettling information. The results proceeded to say that although generally my interactions with others are characterized to be warm and tolerant, sometimes I am tinged with impatience and hostility. This personality trait can not only be harmful to relationships, but also to my general health. Based on my results it suggests that I may be at risk of heart disease.
Taking Action
When it comes to what I can do personally to deal with stress, I can work on shifting my mindset to having a more positive mindset in situations that I cannot control. I can also work on pausing before I react and taking some time to process information fully and actively listen. One thing that can help to keep me one step ahead of stress is to be proactive and manage my time properly.
From what I have seen, companies are more and more having been taking mental health and the side effects of stress more seriously. Companies have been providing health insurance packages and depending on the specific company you work for, these health insurance programs are beginning to include mental health help as well. Another way some companies combat the repercussions of stress is by giving employees paid time off. This helps give the employees the mental break they may need without losing any money. There are even some companies that have chosen to work 4-day week and opposed to the usual 5-days. In cases of these sorts, it has been found that productivity rates have gone up when employees are given extra time on the weekend to spend with loved ones and friends.
