{"id":56,"date":"2021-02-13T05:14:08","date_gmt":"2021-02-13T05:14:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/shaysunraydesigns\/?p=56"},"modified":"2021-02-13T05:14:09","modified_gmt":"2021-02-13T05:14:09","slug":"third-source","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/shaysunraydesigns\/2021\/02\/13\/third-source\/","title":{"rendered":"Third Source"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Japanese Aesthetics of Packaging&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yuriko Saito is a professor of philosophy at Rhode Island School of Design and was born and raised in Japan where she got her Arts Degree.&nbsp; She didn\u2019t quit there though, Yuriko went on to receive her PhD in Philosophy with a minor in Japanese literature.&nbsp; She went on to write many different books and articles on aesthetics and has many on Japanese aesthetics.&nbsp; She\u2019s also presented at many different universities on her studies and findings that include the U.S, Japan, and Finland.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within this article on Japanese aesthetics within their packaging design, I found a few key terms and sections to most likely be important in my research.&nbsp; There&#8217;s a section on \u201cMiegakure\u201d design which I feel will explain a popular design and art aesthetic used by Japanese artists and designers.&nbsp; There\u2019s many other design aesthetics that are varying like \u201cNoren\u201d and \u201cKami\u201d that are also discussed and greatly described.&nbsp; This article also explains how Japanese creations consider the \u201crecipient&#8217;s experience\u201d when designing as well as the respect for the material that they use within their design.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saito, Yuriko. \u201cJapanese Aesthetics of Packaging.\u201d <em>The Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism<\/em>, vol. 57, no. 2, 1999, pp. 257\u2013265. <em>JSTOR<\/em>, www.jstor.org\/stable\/432317.
