Week 7’s Blog

In The shape of design: chapter 9, I really like the description of design in two of them. The first is “The pedigree of great design is not solely based on aesthetics or utility, but also the sensation it creates when it is seen or used.” A great design not only depends on the shape and the surface of it, but also depends on user’s reflection. Just like food, plating a dish adds beauty to the experience, but the testament to the quality of the cooking is in its taste. A food looks very nice but may be disappointed when trying. The second sentence is “All design is experience design – whether it is visiting a website, reading a book, referencing a brochure, interacting with a brand, or interpreting a map.” These experiences can be made better and more memorable design by skillfully catering to audience in an accommodating way.
I have learned a lot of things about Prototype from the reading “Design Bootleg”. The main purpose of Prototype is to gain a deeper understanding of user needs or to explore the insights you are developing. When we started prototype, the audience I needed to look for was the people who will be interacting with this object / experience. Develop the prototype or design the experience, specifically to gain empathy. The prototype has three steps, which are sketch, play and simulate.
After read the “Design Bootleg”, I learned that testing with users is a fundamental part of human-centered design. Testing is not only refine your solution, but to better understand the people you ’re designing for. There are 4 things that we can do in order to testing, which are let your user experience the prototype, have them talk through their experience, actively observe and follow up with questions.
After read the article ” Get started with prototyping”, I had deeper understand with prototyping. What is prototyping? A prototype is a simple experimental model of a proposed solution used to test or validate ideas, design assumptions and other aspects of its conceptualisation quickly and cheaply, so that the designer/s involved can make appropriate refinements or possible changes in direction. Prototyping will help us to get more insights from our users, then we can have a improvement for our design from their view.

Week 6’s blog

After I read the article “Do These 3 Things Before Bed to Hack Your Creativity While You Sleep”, I learned that there are three things can hack our creativity, which are find inspiration in your bedside book, ask yourself the question you are trying to answer and encourage lucid dreaming. I have experienced the second point: During the exam week, I always study until last minutes before sleep, all the things in my brain are about exam. When I lie down, I will continue to respond to the things I learned before, and the problems I have not solved. Many times, I find that I seem to have forgotten a lot of things, and then I keep thinking and slowly fall asleep. Surprisingly, when I woke up the next morning, I started to review what I learned yesterday, I remembered it again. Even the problem that was not solved yesterday, I have a solution idea when I wake up in the morning. I believe have an experience with this.
After I read the article “Can 10 Minutes of Meditation Make You More Creative?”, I found that Meditation is very great way to find out ideas because we all belong to peace without any thoughts during this time.
Accounting to the article “Better Brainstorming”, I learned that the first things that we need to do is set the stage, which is selecting a challenge you are deeply about. And then, brainstorming for questions makes it easier to venture into uncharted territory. Also, invite a few people to help you consider that challenge from fresh angles is very helpful too. Not all questions are created equal, no worry, just keep doing. The last things, we need to do is identify a quest and commit to it, for example study the question you jotted down, looking for those that suggest new pathways on your own.

Week 5’s blog

After I watched the TED Talk: “weird or just different?”, I really like the sentence the speaker mentions is that “sometimes we need to go to the opposite side of the world to realize assumptions we didn’t even know we had, and realize that the opposite of them may also be true. ” I like this sentence mainly because in our life, there is no absolutely right or wrong, we need to think about something on another aspect to get more.
