For more, I turned to <a title=\"edith green\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oregonencyclopedia.org\/entry\/view\/green_edith_starrett_1910_1987_\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Oregon Encyclopedia site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Democrat\u00a0Edith Starrett Green represented Oregon\u2019s 3rd Congressional District from 1955 through 1974. During her twenty years in the U.S. House of Representatives, she gained a national reputation for her leadership in shaping federal education policy and her advocacy for equal rights for women.
