This week we received a new\u00a0bundle\u00a0of historical goodness from Student Media Services (of all places!) to add to our\u00a0<a title=\"Sigma delta chi\" href=\"http:\/\/scarc.library.oregonstate.edu\/coll\/sigmadeltachi\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sigma Delta Chi<\/a>\u00a0collection.<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8220;What is Sigma Delta Chi and why would they have a need for such fancy outfits?&#8221; you may be asking yourself&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Oregon State Chapter of the Sigma Delta Chi national professional fraternity in journalism was established in December 1920 to promote and encourage professional ideals and stimulate high standards of scholarship. Members were selected based on scholarship, leadership, and a\u00a0commitment\u00a0to enter the journalism profession after graduation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Holy smokes, what might I find in this collection?&#8221; you might wonder&#8230;\u00a0The Sigma Delta Chi Oregon State Chapter Records<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>document the membership and activities of the student chapter of the national professional fraternity in journalism, which was established at Oregon State University in 1920. The records include correspondence, membership rosters, reports, publications, and a constitution.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And, of course, pamphlets for garb and\u00a0paraphernalia&#8230; Curious and want to know more?<br \/>\nPhotographs of the members and activities of Sigma Delta Chi during the 1930s are part of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nwda-db.wsulibs.wsu.edu\/findaid\/ark:\/80444\/xv26751\">Journalism Department Photographs (P 208)<\/a>\u00a0and correspondence pertaining to the founding of the chapter is available in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nwda-db.wsulibs.wsu.edu\/findaid\/ark:\/80444\/xv45016\">Journalism Department Records (RG 091)<\/a>. The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nwda-db.wsulibs.wsu.edu\/findaid\/ark:\/80444\/xv86533\">Memorabilia Collection<\/a>\u00a0(MC-Sigma Delta Chi) includes a 1926 pamphlet prepared by Sigma Delta Chi,\u00a0<em>Getting Out an Effective High School Annual<\/em>. The records of the Oregon State chapter of Theta Sigma Phi, the women&#8217;s journalism professional society are also held by the Archives as well as the papers of several journalism faculty and alumni: Ted Carlson,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nwda-db.wsulibs.wsu.edu\/findaid\/ark:\/80444\/xv08556\">Hope Chamberlin<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nwda-db.wsulibs.wsu.edu\/findaid\/ark:\/80444\/xv52675\">Fred M.
