{"id":32,"date":"2022-12-05T06:38:12","date_gmt":"2022-12-05T06:38:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/samsmicrobialthoughts\/?p=32"},"modified":"2022-12-05T06:38:12","modified_gmt":"2022-12-05T06:38:12","slug":"writing-exercise-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/samsmicrobialthoughts\/2022\/12\/05\/writing-exercise-14\/","title":{"rendered":"Writing Exercise #14"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I am setting a timer and listing all of the non-infectious diseases influenced by microorganisms that I can think of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Go!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>diabetes mellitus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>schizophrenia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>stomach ulcers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>kaposi sarcoma<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cervical cancer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>gastric cancer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>atopic dermatitis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>depression<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>obesity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>vaginosis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>periodontitis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Comparing this to my list I made in week 1,  I listed 5 more diseases than I did, and used 8 new diseases. I think the in-class examples of stomach ulcers and obesity being influenced by the microbiome will stick with me. I had an easier time grasping the concepts surrounding these examples, likely because something in either case resonated with me. I think this class gave me a new perspective on bacteria as more than just disease-causing, but also as modulators of pre-existing ails and healthy behaviors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am setting a timer and listing all of the non-infectious diseases influenced by microorganisms that I can think of: Go!
