Their research investigates how social constructs like gender implicitly structure design theories, design cognition, and technology trajectories in service of building more equitable tech and infrastructure. Their research has been presented at major design conferences such as ACM DIS, DTRS, and ASME IDETC, which has garnered them a Best Paper award. They were also honored as an <a href=\"https:\/\/me.berkeley.edu\/me-rising-stars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ME Rising Star 2023<\/a> at UC Berkeley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kang completed their B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington. They are currently a <strong>Ph.D. Candidate in Mechanical Engineering at Oregon State University<\/strong> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/design.engr.oregonstate.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Design Engineering Lab<\/a>. Prior, they worked at HP Inc. for more than five years as a mechanical design engineer and MEMS process engineer for HP&#8217;s first color <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hp.com\/us-en\/printers\/3d-printers\/products\/multi-jet-technology.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MultiJet Fusion 3D printer<\/a> and 2D inkjet printhead technology, respectively. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This website also provides a look into their <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/samanthakang\/research\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"14\">research<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/samanthakang\/teaching\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"271\">teaching<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/samanthakang\/corvallis-climbers-of-color\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"151\">community organizing work<\/a> via <strong>Corvallis Climbers of Color<\/strong>, an organization they founded to reduce barriers to climbing and the outdoors for people of color. Sam has been awarded multiple nationally competitive grants from Arc&#8217;teryx and the American Alpine Club.
