How these four companies practice Human Resource Management
What makes a company a great place to work at? By looking at statistics from 2020 Fortune, we can see what employees are saying about working at Hilton, NVDIA, Genentech, and Hillcorp Energy Company, and what they think about their HR.
At Hilton, 96% of employees agree that it is a great place to work, along with 96% stating that management is honest and ethical in business practices. At NVDIA, 97% of employees agree that it is a great place to work, and also think that their management is honest and ethical in business practices. At Genentech, 90% say it is a great place to work, however don’t mention that their management is honest and ethical (Fortune). They instead focus on how they feel welcomed and proud working there. The same goes for Hillcorp Energy Company, high percentage say it is a great place to work for however focus on pride, their feelings and being able to take off time other than honest management.
Based on the lectures and materials, I can see how they relate to these companies. There is no one type of culture that leads to happy employees (Swift). Looking at these four companies we can see some similarities and differences in the percentages of what employees think. Some like that they have more responsibility and the feeling of pride working, where others like how clear and ethical their management is. It is good to mention that out of all these companies, wages and benefits wasn’t mentioned as to why the company is great to work at.
Being a good manager can be challenging. I personally think that some of the challenges would be deciding how to allocate the resources available, and knowing how to handle mistakes. I would like to be a manager that values employees as people, and one that has good open communication about expectations and also provides the necessary training to new hires.
