Blog Post #5

The second term out of three terms is finally coming to a close here in the next week and I couldn’t be more excited. There has certainly been some ups and downs (I guess) but for the most part there has only ever been ups while developing our app. The most difficult challenge for developing our app was the waiting period for getting access to our MySQL database. Everything is pretty dependent on having a database – from the users to the trips – so developing without the actual implementation could only get us so far. Thankfully, after emailing IT multiple times over the course of a few weeks, we were able to get access and start connecting everything to the database and see the results we were looking for.

This project was one of the few that I thought would be great experience to work on because everyone needs a website these days. Being able to work on a website from beginning to end isn’t something I’ve really done before, so being able to practice it here has been extremely educational. Sure, I’ve taken my Web Dev course at OSU but that handled more the basics vs going all-out for a webapp like we did here.

I think for the most part our project was managed really well. Most of us aren’t “talkers” so the only times we really communicated was for team meetings or if there was a pull request that needed merging, but it wasn’t bad. Having someone on our team to handle bringing us all together to get work started was very needed and I am glad that we were able to find that for our group. In the end, I think that we were able to piece this project together very well, without very many hiccups.
