Introduction to Me

Hello! My name is Renee and I’m entering my final term of the Computer Science post-bacc program at OSU. While the journey was hard at times, I also found it incredibly rewarding and cannot wait to graduate this March. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! I’m excited to begin the Capstone project as I know it’ll provide invaluable experience working with a team on a bigger project – something I haven’t had much experience with yet.

Now, a little about me. I have my first Bachelor’s degree in Biology with the original intent of going on to get a Master’s or Doctorate in some sort of medical field. However, I couldn’t decide exactly which field of medicine to go into so I started working as a pharmacy tech for a home infusion pharmacy until I figured it out. I loved my job for a while but eventually, short staffing ended up causing me to have to do the job of 3-4 people. Roles were cut and job requirements were shifted, forcing my role to become insurance oriented. There was no end in sight and after two years of empty promises from management, I decided that I wanted out of the healthcare field for good.

But why did I choose computer science? My husband is in the field and I’ve watched him thrive over the years. I got a first hand look at what the day to day life of a developer looks like and I decided I wanted that life too. His excitement and passion for what he does was also contagious. Before diving head first into school, I did a few free mini-programming lessons to make sure I would actually enjoy it. Eventually, I decided it was the right move and started at OSU in 2021.

As of now, I don’t work. I was fortunate enough to be able to quit my pharmacy job last year to focus on finishing this degree strong. I’m unsure exactly what career I want although I do have an interest in cybersecurity as well as anything on the more creative side (such as game development). However, I will honestly take whatever job I can get and will be grateful to get my foot in the door at any tech company. From there, I will hopefully continue to gain valuable insights and experiences to further understand what path I can and want to take.

More about me. I live in New York state with my husband and our 3 cats. We own an old farmhouse with a lot of land perfect for gardening. I’m still learning but becoming a better gardener every year. I have many hobbies including gardening, cooking, baking, watching tv, puzzles, crafting, and playing video games. My main hobby though, is reading – I love to read! Fantasy is my favorite genre but I will read from just about any genre out there. I haven’t counted in a while but I own at least 600 books and am always looking to buy more!

Thanks for reading about me and my journey so far!
