Why I Left Precision
After college I accepted a job at my Uncle’s auto body shop. I was the office administrator. Basically I answered the phone, set up appointments, greeted customers, and performed various other office duties. I was making minimum wage but could not afford to move out. I understand that at a first job after college I would not be paid that much but I do not think that asking for a raise would have been shocking. After probably four months I asked my supervisor if I could get a few dollar raise. He said since the branch I worked at was new a raise was not possible. I was doing the same thing over and over each day and I wanted to challenge myself but there was no way to do that. I ended up leaving that job after seven months. I think compensation motivated this behavior because I was not making enough money to see the value in staying at that job. I did ask if a raise was possible so I know that door was already closed. There was no other motivating factor that pulled me to stay at the job. The fact that the compensation was a big part of the job for me and that I was getting minimum wage led me to behave that way. I do believe that if I was paid three dollars more an hour I would have stayed.
