My name is Rafael Carmona and throughout this blog I’ll be sharing my experiences through my Capstone class, my project and other thoughts related to tech! It’s my last class at OSU. It’s been a hard but rewarding two years. I can’t believe I’m at the the end of the program and ready to graduate!

A little about me!

Why did you choose to go into Computer Science?

Ever since I was a child, I have had a passion and curiosity for technology. Whether it was video games, photography, or building computers, I was always interested in tech. However, when I turned 18, I decided to study accounting to take over the family business and follow in my father’s footsteps. It was a noble attempt, but it was not my true calling. Years later, I realized that I should have pursued my passion for technology from the beginning. It just goes to show that one should always follow their heart. I love creating things, designing, programming, solving challenging problems, and learning about new and exciting technology.

A pic. By me!

Why did you choose the projects you did on the survey? What makes them interesting to you?

I chose the project “Job Tracker” because I thought it sounded doable and challenging at the same time. I wasn’t sure if I should pick something “difficult” or something I’ve never done before, like making a game. So, I decided on something I know how to do but can learn a new technology to accomplish it. We’ll see what the group decides on, but I really want to learn React.

What do you hope to learn from your project?

This program is fully online, which has been great since I have a family and work full-time. The downside is that there isn’t a lot of interaction with other students. I have done some projects with others, but not a lot. So, I hope to learn how to work as a team, coordinate, and plan as a group through this project.

What do you hope to learn from the course?

I hope to learn strategies to better understand what it takes to put together a project from start to finish in a group setting. I’ve developed full stack projects on my own but never having to coordinate with others.

What type of person are you, in terms of a group dynamic?

I have always considered myself a versatile and adaptable individual, jack of all trades kind of person. Adaptable. Whether it’s working in a team or taking on individual projects, I am always eager to contribute and lend my skills to achieve the desired outcome. While I am comfortable taking on leadership positions, I do recognize that there are instances where my technical knowledge may be limited, and in such cases, I prefer to defer to someone with more expertise. Overall, I believe that my willingness to learn and adapt, coupled with my strong work ethic, allows me to thrive in various environments and excel in whatever role I am given.

Are you worried about working in groups? If so, what do you plan to do to make this experience better?

I’m a little worried of course. When you don’t choose your team, you don’t always know what you’re getting. If we mesh well, if the proper roles are filled, etc. But I suppose that’s part of the job. Adapting not only to the project but the other team members. So, all I can do is keep an open line of communication with my team and hope for the best.

The end!

Here’s to my last class! Can’t wait to get started and hammer out an awesome project. I am looking forward to graduating and taking the next step in my career, armed with the knowledge and experience gained from this program.
