Update #2

We’re in week 3 now. And everything’s been going great so far. We’ve planned out our projects, turned in some information and ready to start coding!

Why did you and your team choose the technologies you did?

Our group chose to use a basic JS, HTML, CSS, MongoDB, Express, Node stack. Which I’m ok with since I’ve work with them in the past. I was sad we weren’t using any react, since it’s what I wanted to learn. But it’s ok, I’m learning it on the side. With the stack we chose we felt it was the best for the group.

How will your project use them?

For our job tracker app, we’ll use Javascript, HTML, CSS for the front end and design. And we’ll use MongoDB, Express, Node.js for the back-end. This will allow us to fully create a proper app.

What are their pros and cons?

The pros is that I’ve used the tech before and so has another student. The stack we chose work very well together, they integrate seamlessly and is easy to use. I don’t see many cons as of right now.

What were the alternatives?

The alternatives that we spoke on, was using Flask and Python to develop the project. Which would have been a good choice but I wanted more practice in JS since I developed a big web app in my database class using Flask and Python.

What do you like or dislike about your system UI/UX?

As of right now we don’t really have UI/UX other than one page. It looks alright. But the student who designed made it look like a Trello board, which is nice but not sure how to design that without React. Hopefully he knows how to do it.

What do you like or dislike about your server/backend system/API?

I like the back end we chose. MongoDB. It’s an easy backend database to use and it scales well. It’s easy to create dummy data and to seed if we need to. The only downside from my point of view, is I haven’t really used it much. But excited to learn more about it.

What do you like or dislike about your design modularity? Does it enable each of your to work independently?

We each have our own tasks we’re working on, so it’s easy to work independently. We’re still new to coding together so it’s taking some time. But I’m sure we’ll get the hang of it soon. I like the modularity of the design, it helps to break down the tasks into small chunks and helps us keep track of our progress..

BONUS

What I’ve been up to on my free time!

Been using and learning to work with Open AI’s API. I figured might as well leverage AI and make cool things with. Recently I learned to make a color palette app. I request colors based on a theme, mood, or instructions and Mr. AI provides me with a color palette based on my prompt. It’s really cool.

I’ve also have been working on an app that leverages OpenAI’s technology to provide personalized song recommendations to users. In addition, I’m integrating with Spotify’s API to create a playlist automatically based on those recommendations. Love Spotify and using AI. So why not combine them?
