Rachel Leslie, a clinical science manager at GOJO Industries, states that in a product testing study titled “Inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 by commercially available alcohol-based hand sanitizers” (2021), both gel and foam 70% ethanol vol/vol hand sanitizers reduced the SARS-CoV-2 virus below detectable limits. Leslie provides evidence that alcohol-based hand sanitizers are able to reduce the viral recovery greater than 3 log10 after a 30-second exposure through in-vitro suspension methods. The purpose of this study is to test if commercially available gel and foam alcohol-based hand sanitizers are effective against SARS-CoV-2 using suspension testing, so we can better understand the impact of hand hygiene and on alcohol-based hand sanitizers preventing COVID-19 infections. Leslie establishes a professional relationship with others in product testing industries, as well as others in SARS-CoV-2 infection control research.
