Just A Second Post

Hey folks,

I am back with a second post. I just want to give a quick update on the Capstone Project and the technology behind it. So, the team and I decided to make an Escape Room game with the assistance of Unreal Engine. We decided to go with Unreal over Unity which none of us have experience with. I do expect to run into some bumps in the road, but I am sure Unreal will offer a fun and unforgettable experience. I am a bit excited about using Unreal because I do want to learn how to make video games and hopefully turn it into a hobby.

Moving on, it is time to get down to business and start answering the required rubric questions. As mentioned above, my team decided to go with Unreal. We did not have a huge deciding factor for why we wanted to go with Unreal over Unity. Everyone on the team expressed interest in learning it, so we all agreed on using it for this project. As for other technology, Unreal is a powerful engine, so a lot of the heavy lifting will be done by it alone. We do not foresee the need for any other tech for this project besides Git and GitHub.

What I really like about Unreal, besides the fun factor of playing around with a game engine for the first time, is the UI/UX. Everything UI/UX-wise is pretty intuitive. I may be a tad bit biased because I am using an Udemy course to get a feel for the Engine. Instead of throwing the word “Everything” out there, I guess it would probably be safer to say some things. When you select something, a lot of the options just feel like they logically belong there. Options such as gravity, weight, and physics appear when you select an object. Also, I really enjoy having the ability to test out a stage at any time with the simple click of a button.
