The question now is not whether AI will change education, but how we will shape that change to create a more effective, equitable, and engaging learning environment for all<em>. <\/em>\u2014Ethan Mollick, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oneusefulthing.org\/p\/post-apocalyptic-education\">One Useful Thing<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is offering a Fall \u201925 Teaching and AI faculty learning community. Participants will develop and refine teaching strategies to make the most of the opportunities and meet the challenges brought about by ubiquitous generative AI tools. This learning community will provide a collaborative space to learn alongside pedagogical specialists, AI experts, and teaching colleagues from across the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The learning community will be co-facilitated by UIT-Academic Technologies and will provide ample practice in the use of generative AI tools. Participants will learn about opportunities to enhance teaching and learning with AI, while addressing AI-related concerns such as issues with academic integrity and bias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Structure<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The AI learning community is a professional development program that provides $1,000 to instructors who:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fully participate in all synchronous learning community meetings and asynchronous Canvas learning activities.\u202f&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create plans to implement strategies that address AI in teaching <strong>in an on-campus course (Corvallis or Cascades) planned for Winter or Spring \u201926.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Present their ideas, projects, or experiences about teaching with AI at the final learning community meeting (showcase).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The learning community will blend five required Zoom meetings with online learning activities in Canvas throughout the term starting on Monday, Sep. 29. The time commitment will average approximately 90 minutes per week. The learning community will meet on <strong>Thursdays, noon to 1:30 p.m., on October 9 and 23, November 6 and 20, and December 4.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Oregon State University fixed-term and tenured\/tenure-track academic faculty who regularly teach credit-based Corvallis or Cascades campus courses<strong> <\/strong>are eligible to apply. AI beginners and skeptics are welcome. Space is limited. This learning community is focused around on-campus teaching.<strong> It is not for development or redevelopment of Ecampus courses<\/strong>. Faculty support for Ecampus courses can be found at <a href=\"https:\/\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/faculty\/\">Ecampus Faculty Support<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Application<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To be considered for participation in this learning community, please <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/r\/YYBhYMfbUW\">submit your application<\/a> by Wednesday, September 17<\/strong>. CTL values the participation of faculty from a wide variety of disciplines and course levels.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants will be notified of acceptance by<strong> <\/strong>Wednesday, Sep. 24.<strong> <\/strong>Upon acceptance, the instructor, the instructor\u2019s unit head, and CTL will sign an MOU regarding FLC participation and funding.
