For the remainder of the spring term, parking in all lots at OSU-Cascades will be free for the entire day. This is to recognize the financial strain that parking has on members of the OSU-Cascades’ community. We can offer this benefit based on the reduced cost of snow removal for this academic year when snowfall was relatively low.

We will provide hangtags for residential students that will allow them to park in the Chandler parking lot until 10am, Monday through Thursday (Friday parking is free). Currently, the Chandler and Simpson lots are free from 5pm to 8am the following morning. This will offer residential students additional time (up to 10 am) to either move their cars to the lower-cost Simpson lot or pay for the full day in the Chandler lot. We have instituted this to help residential students that work late or otherwise come back to campus late to park nearby the residence hall at night without being ticketed first thing in the morning.

We will institute a monthly parking pass for residential students in the Chandler lot. This will be a monthly pass (not a pass for the entire term) and will be at a higher rate than the Simpson lot. The Simpson lot will remain the lowest cost parking option for residential students. The cost of the monthly Chandler lot parking pass will be announced soon (check the parking website: https://osucascades.edu/parking/ )

I appreciate all of the feedback that I received from students and employees on this topic. As I pointed out, parking is one of the major frustrations and issues for college campuses nationwide. While we were not able to address every concern, I hope that you will agree that we have made progress. For future parking policies on this campus, I will commit to:

Remaining completely transparent about the costs and budgets for our parking operations.

Keep parking costs as low as absolutely possible to cover the costs of our parking operations.

Continue to listen to and address feedback to better tailor our parking to the campus community’s needs.

Parking month has come to a close at OSU-Cascades.
