Racial Aikido & Examining White Identity Applications Live

Looking for ways to get more involved in advancing social justice education on campus? The following events are open to all OSU students!

Racial Aikido explores the experiences of Students of Color (SOC) at OSU and beyond. The focus for the 2021 experience is on community-building, the recognition of identity and racism, and response and replenishment to these realities. The goal is to build a supportive network to learn and thrive at OSU and beyond.  Racial Aikido will be a completely remote experience this year, using Zoom to facilitate the event. The final details are still being confirmed on the schedule. We will likely meet on Friday, March 26 at 4-6pm PST and on Saturday, March 27 at 9am-3pm PST with multiple breaks in-between that time. The priority deadline for application is Friday, March 12. Applications will be accepted until the retreat is full. Check out the application here.

The series “Examining White Identity” will be taking place on Tuesday, March 30, April 6, or April 13 from 5-7pm PST. This 3-part virtual series is designed for White-identified students to deepen their understanding of and commitment to racial justice work and anti-racism practice. This offering is a part of a movement to grow a community of White-identified students committed to racial justice at OSU. Learn more and apply here by our priority deadline of Friday, March 12th. Applications will be accepted until the series is full.

Academic Year 2021-2022 Scholarships: Deadline Extension

Are you looking for scholarships to help pay for your tuition and fees next school year? This year, you will be able to search for both OSU scholarships and external (non-OSU) scholarships using ScholarDollars. The application deadline was extended and will now close March 8, 2021 for the College of Public Health and Human Sciences.  Start your application now and don’t wait until the last minute! All submitted CPHHS applications will be carefully reviewed by a committee of CPHHS faculty members across the college, and once your application is submitted, you won’t be able to edit it. Additionally, if you are an AY20-21 CPHHS scholarship recipient, your scholarship award(s) is not renewable, so we encourage everyone to apply for the AY21-22 scholarships. If you have any questions regarding the CPHHS undergraduate scholarships, please feel free to email our scholarship coordinator, Niddy Lindsley.

In regards to the extended deadline, more scholarships are being added, including CPHHS scholarships. Please watch for the weekly newsletter from ScholarDollars. The newsletter will tell you how many newly-matched scholarship opportunities you qualify for. Yes, this also includes those who already submitted the application – there are possibly more scholarships you qualify for. Be sure to log into ScholarDollars and check your ONID for the newsletter with more information.

Spring 2021 Course: Marine Policy in the US

Are you still looking for another class to register for in the spring? Consider signing up for “Marine Policy in the United States”, PPOL 448 (CRN 57905) and PPOL548 (CRN 57906). This course introduces students to the history, rationale, achievements, and gaps in American ocean policy from the early Republic through the present.  Students will acquire foundational tools of policy analysis and problem-solving, and will synthesize and apply their knowledge creatively to proposals for integrated policy solutions to specific contemporary marine issues. There is no final examination, no required textbook, and no prerequisites. The class focuses on working hard and improving research, analysis and writing skills. Anyone interested should sign up as soon as possible.  The class tends to have a smallish group (usually under 20) which significantly enhances the learning experience and helps form lasting relationships.  However, if people wait too long and/or the class doesn’t meet minimum enrollment, it could be canceled by the end of March. Be sure to ask your advisor about it or contact Holly Campbell if you’re interested!
