Geography of COVID-19 Fall 2020 Seminar

A newly developed seminar, GEOG 499/599 “ST/THE GEOGRAPHY OF COVID-19″, is now available for Fall 2020 registration. This one-credit seminar will feature rotating faculty from Geography and may include guest faculty from other programs, such as Public Health. The seminar will touch on a range of topics, including COVID-19 geovisualization, process of dispersal and trajectory, multi-scalar and spatial relationships of care, health disparities and underserved communities, reimagining urban sustainability, changes in air quality and greenhouse gas concentrations, the remaking of oceanscapes, effects in refugee settlements, and pandemic-induced “disaster capitalism”. There are no prerequisites for the class, and anyone at OSU is welcome to enroll.

Employment Opportunities in Eastern Oregon

Graduating this year and looking for a job in education or early childhood? Eastern Oregon is a great place to look. Nestled between rivers and mountains, Eastern Oregon sees about 200 sunny days a year. You’ll often see people hiking, cycling, skiing, fishing, or experiencing cultural events such as rodeos, concerts, and farmers’ markets. There are many amazing choices for places to eat, from distilleries to food trucks, and often the commute times are as little as 5 minutes. There are many job opportunities available currently:

James R. Naibert, M.D., Healthcare Scholarship

This scholarship is in honor of James R. Naibert, a retired physician at the Corvallis Clinic. The scholarship is geared towards recognizing students who demonstrate an interest in working in a health-related profession that involves direct patient care. To be eligible, students must be a college sophomore or above in standing and have graduated from high school in Linn or Benton county or have lived in either county for at least 3 years while working in the healthcare field. Knowledge Quest: A New Podcast for Students

Friends! Join Slade Thackeray on a new podcast called Knowledge Quest. He created it for you. It a great place to ask questions about personal and professional development. Slade takes the questions, and then he finds answers by interviewing professionals and students from all over the place. Check it out and leave him a question here.

Summer Experiential Learning Options

Experiential Learning expert Slade Thackeray has put together a video explaining all things experiential learning for this summer; the best part is all the opportunities are open to all PHHS students. Options in the KIN 406 class include an Advanced Industry Awareness course, Service Learning in Kinesiology, and an opportunity to earn Retroactive Credit. These classes need at least 25 people to happen, so make sure to check them out!
