Whew, can you believe that week 8 is coming to an end? At least a little break is on our way next week. We hope your Thanksgiving is wonderful, whether that be you getting some extra rest or going to see family! 🙂

HIGHLIGHTS

Mental Health First Aid training for Extension

  • Date and time: NOW, November 19th, 2021 @ 8:30-4:00 PM
  • Mode of event: online over Zoom

  • Develop skills and confidence to help others in crisis and promote healing
  • Participants will complete 2 hours of self-paced pre-work and 6 hours of group training
  • Training covers

    • Substance abuse disorders

Diversity Visitation Event for Research and Graduate Education

  • 3-day biomedical research program held on Florida campus of the Scripps Research Institute
    • In-depth preview of TSRI’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellows (SURF) program
  • Workshops and talks by TSRI faculty members, tour laboratories, meet with graduate students
  • Eligibility undergraduates currently enrolled in their sophomore, junior, and senior years
    • Those interested in graduate studies encouraged to apply
  • Travel to the Jupiter campus, food, and lodging covered
  • Program dates: January 6th-8th, 2022

National Collegiate Research Conference (NCRC)

  • Dates and times conference held: January 21– 23, 2022
  • Large-scale forum held annually at Harvard University (tentative virtual due to COVID)
    • Most accomplished undergraduate students convene to share their research in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences
  • Goal: provide student researchers w/ opportunity to hear from world’s leading authorities in academia, policy, and industry

Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP)

  • FREE transformative 6 week summer experience for aspiring health professions
    • Must be a freshman or sophomore in college
  • Room and board free, $500 travel and $600 attendance stipend

  • Application deadline: February 15th, 2022
  • CPHHS scholarships applied through ScholarDollars portal
  • All submitted CPHHS scholarship applications to be reviewed and scored based on the open-ended questions
  • If awarded, offer letters emailed to nominees around mid-spring term (about Week 5-6)
    • If not accepted by deadline, offer will be given to another student

Jason Halstead and Robert Chapman Scholarship Fund

  • Scholarship to help Oregon’s students who embody role of a leader and change-maker

Ford Scholarship Program for Adults or Single Parents Over 25

  • Ford Opportunity Program assists adult learners to obtain a college degree
    • Originally a program just for single parents so they are still strongly encouraged to apply
  • Scholarship amount: covers 90% of unmet college costs and is calculated on the college’s Cost of Attendance
