CPHHS Undergraduate Research Shadowing and Reflection Program – NEW this year!

Submit an application for the 2017-18 Undergraduate Research Shadowing and Reflection Program.  This multi-component program is designed for CPHHS majors to enhance their classroom education.  All students are welcome to apply; we encourage students who have never taken part in research to apply.  Program components include: 1) participating in weekly skill-building sessions, 2) attending research-related seminars/events, 3) reflecting on activities and experiences, 4) exploring a faculty-mentored research setting and shadowing a researcher (Spring 2018), and 5) designing and presenting a poster based on reflections of their unique research experience.  The program period is Winter through Spring terms 2018.  Learn more at Research Shadowing and Reflection Program. Deadline for applications:  Dec 15, 2017, 5pm Pacific Time.  Questions? Contact: Deanne Hudson,  541-737-2689.

Graduate Program at OSU: History of Science

The History of Science graduate program provides professional training in the interdisciplinary subject of history of science, technology, and medicine. It bridges the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences by studying the social and cultural contexts within which science is practiced and has developed. To learn more, please visit: History of Medicine, Technology, and Science Graduate Program.

Undergraduate Student Council

Join us on the Undergraduate Student Council (USC) if you are interested in leadership development, team-building activities, and community service. In addition, the USC meets with College administration because the vision of the USC is to act as a voice for the student body. We are tentatively scheduled to meet 6:00-7:30pm on the following Wednesday evenings of winter term: January 17, February 14, and March 7 (location TBA). All are welcome as long as you are an undergraduate student in CPHHS. Contact Vicki Ebbeck, if you would like to become a member or have any questions.

URSA Engage

Engage in partnerships with faculty outside of the classroom while getting paid! The goal of URSA Engage is to provide first- and second-year students, and transfer students in their first year at OSU, opportunities to pursue research or a creative activity under the guidance of an OSU mentor. Students who are selected will receive an award of $750; their faculty mentors will receive $250 in development funds. The program is available to undergraduates across all academic disciplines. Projects will take place from the middle of winter term 2018 through the end of spring term 2018 (15 weeks at 5 hrs/week). Everything you need to know is live on our website: URSA Engage.
So, now what do you do? Here are the steps:
  1. Go to the URSA Engage website, and read through the faculty mentor project descriptions.
  2. Reach out to faculty via email, and set up meetings to discuss applying to the program.
  3. After you find a mentor, have your faculty mentor read your final application and sign the Faculty Mentor Approval Form, which must be attached.
  4. Submit the program application!
