Hi and welcome to my blog: https://blogs.oregonstate.edu/omargarzacantu.
I think for many of us within the OSU post-bacc family, this is just the start of another phase in our lives. If my experience is anything like some others, we all probably faced some sort of trigger that motivated us to make this leap into computer science.
For me the leap was doing public accounting when the pandemic hit. The job became a mix of remote work with some in-person work but even with that change I think I was unsatisfied with how many career path had gone. A lot of accounting is sometimes changing dates or shifting columns to the left to make space for new information we’re going to add. Additionally, at least in public accounting you have to format and process client data so that your own systems can work on it. So, with this in mind I thought I would learn coding so that work that was previously done in excel could be done faster.
I was lucky considering that same year I got to do normal accounting things at an oil and gas company. I took one more class and although I’ve had to change jobs since then, I’ve begun to tinker with CSV data that was very annoying to change in excel. I’m fairly optimistic about the future and I’m more than happy to share some of the insights I gleam from this capstone project.
