For my part, I wrote out the “script” (i.e. the setting, objects, characters, and interactions) that will take place in Poseidon’s rooms.

While I was creating the rooms, I realized that I only really had surface-level knowledge of Greek Mythology (and about Poseidon). Therefore, I decided to dive into research and found everything I could about Poseidon, like his likes and dislikes, personality traits, and what setting he is usually associated with. I found out that not only is Poseidon the god of the sea, he is also the god of earthquakes and horses. I also found out that he is commonly depicted with Hippocamps, mythological creatures that have the head, body, and front legs of a horse, wings that look like fins, and a serpentine fish tail. Prior to my research, I didn’t even know that Hippocamps were a thing and I was thrilled to find out that there are mythological creatures equivalent to horse-mermaids. Moreover, I learned that Poseidon resides in Atlantis, which was once known to be an island in Greek mythology. I also learned that there are types of Water Nymphs, called Nereids, who are specifically associated to the sea.

But I digress, after creating the rooms for Poseidon’s Domain, I realized that it takes effort and research to create something accurate and appealing to people. I also realized that I cannot just write in a run-and-gun style, I also have to factor in drafting scripts, and rewriting if necessary.

This week, I started the process of doing creative writing for my project, and I was reminded of the amount of effort it takes to write something that really captivates and engages an audience.
