Like all governments in the United States, including federally recognized Tribal governments, Oregon is required by 44 CFR 201 to maintain Federal Emergency Management Agency-approved Natural Hazard Mitigation Plans (NHMPs). These plans inform mitigation priorities for natural hazards and are required to qualify for some types of pre-disaster and disaster assistance. Oregon\u2019s NHMPs also are enjoined by Statewide Land Use Planning Goal 7, to protect people and property from natural hazards<\/em>. The state\u2019s NHMP process is led by the Department of Land Conservation and Development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Oregon Climate Change Research Institute is supporting the Department of Land Conservation and Development in its development of county-level natural hazard mitigation plans. These plans examine the influence of climate change on wildfire, droughts, extreme heat, extreme precipitation, landslides, floods, and other natural hazards. OCCRI provides local climate projections relevant to such natural hazards, and evaluates the potential effects of climate change on the likelihood and consequences of hazards that are most germane to each county. To date, we have completed reports for the counties listed below. We anticipate completing reports for additional counties as their planning processes launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
