Hello world!

Hi, my name is Noah. I’m studying computer science at Oregon State University, and I’m starting my senior project. Besides that, I’m also in the New Hampshire Air National Guard, nearing the end of a deployment to Qatar. I’m looking forward to putting all my weight into my studies when I return home next month.

My first programming class was in high school, where I programmed a maze game in Python. I enjoyed the creativity and problem-solving it required. I found it worthwhile to learn more, so I majored in CS in college.

I’m also quite interested in machine intelligence, especially deep learning. Here are a few of my favorite DL research papers:

  • DeepChess: End-to-End Deep Neural Network for Automatic Learning in Chess – https://arxiv.org/abs/1711.09667
  • DALL-E: Zero-Shot Text-to-Image Generation – https://arxiv.org/abs/2102.12092
  • Open-Ended Learning Leads to Generally Capable Agents – https://arxiv.org/abs/2107.12808

Here are some of the best learning experiences I’ve had in college so far:

  • Working on a team to create an online multiplayer tank game in Java using object-oriented design principles
  • Programming in C/C++
  • Writing functions in Assembly
  • Programming in Haskell to learn functional programming
  • Transforming images in MATLAB using matrix operations
  • Building a website with Node.js
  • Building a different website with Python and Flask
