- Why might organizations decide to allocate more resources toward marketing or product design rather than using those same resources to do a really good job in employee recruitment and selection?
A company might choose to focus resources toward their marketing or product design over employee selection because if they can offer a high quality product and be well known through marketing; high achieving individuals will want to work for a company with a good reputation and product. While this won’t work for every company, it especially works for technological ones. Google, Apple, Microsoft, Intel; these are just a few of the big name tech companies that anyone would love to work for if they had the chance. Given their large reputation and high quality product, they were able to achieve a big outreach. While they may have to sift through even more applications now, they have more options and chances for getting a quality hire.
- What are the potential strengths and weaknesses of an organization’s decision to NOT prioritize recruitment and selection in favor of a focus on other aspects of the business?
Strengths
By focuses resources on other areas of a business, it can be more likely the business will see growth in those sectors. By investing resources into product design, or sales, a company could sell more or create better designs for their products which would yield them better customer satisfaction, product reviews, and overall company reputation. Which when achieving the title of a ‘name brand,’ products will often sell themselves. As well as people desiring to work for them.
Weaknesses
By choosing to focus on recruitment and selection, a company can greatly improve their overall company, in all areas, by acquiring more quality workers. By doing so, it pulls these high performing and creative minds from competitors giving them a better chance at success in the leg race. While also fostering an environment for creativity and innovation, qualities greatly needed in every company for long-term success.
