Capstone Blog #1-Intro

Introduce yourself:

I am 31 years old, born and raised in Monterey, California. I have a wife, cat, and a kid on the way. My wife and I just moved back to Monterey from living in Budapest, Hungary and Yokohama, Japan so that we could leverage our support system back in my hometown while we navigate having kids: the next chapter in our life.

Why did you choose to go into Computer Science?

I went into Computer Science because I needed to upskill during the coronavirus pandemic. I was searching for a job in the field of my other bachelor’s degree, urban planning, but there was a huge hiring freeze because most jobs were government related.

Now I want to work as a software engineer for a few years and then, hopefully, create my own company that works at the intersection of Computer Science and Urban Planning

What do you hope to learn from your project?

Up until now, there were pretty strict guidelines for projects in terms of what technology we could use, how we were supposed to make things work, etc. Also, when something wasn’t covered, we were sometimes provided skeleton code, which often times took forever to understand. I hope to learn how to integrate established ideas with the ideas of my partner and my own to create a beautiful take on a project script!
