I am 34 and have spent most of my life as a musician and an audio engineer before turning my focus to computer science.

My computer science journey started through video games. At one point in my musical career, I got really interested in making music and sound effects for video games. I really enjoyed it, something about the dynamic and non-linear aspect of video game music really intrigued me. I first started putting my music into blank Unity demo games, but I eventually ran out of those. So I then took a few Unity/C# courses on Udemy so I could make my own small games. It turned out I enjoyed making the game just as much as I enjoyed making the music for it. I went down a wormhole learning all about game development and basic programming concepts. I did some work with VR, but spent most of my time making 2D games for game jams and finding a whole new way to be creative.

During the Covid pandemic I decided I finally wanted to pursue a bachelor’s degree. I felt programming was something that I wanted to learn properly, and it was a degree that might actually land me a decent job (audio engineering definitely wasn’t). So in the summer of 2021 I started my journey at OSU. I’ve loved pretty much all of my classes, and have learned a ton. I have also met a lot of really interesting people from all over the country.

While still being a student, I’ve been able to apply my new skills at my current job. I work for a for-profit school for audio engineering in New York city. I’ve been working in the tech department, but I recently started talking to the one guy in the company that writes Python scripts. He writes code that integrates a lot of different services we use, and automates a lot of manual tasks. He’s let me help him write some of this code and it has given me a lot of experience in writing production ready code that solves business problems, and experience working with code with other people.

I’m looking forward to gaining more experience in this class working with a larger group on a much bigger project. I am excited for the next few terms!

Hello all and welcome to my personal blog.
