Welcome MWM Trainees,
We’re looking forward to beginning our training together on Friday, September 18. Our first field session will take place at the Oberteuffer Research and Education Forest, where you’ll be introduced to OSU Extension and the Master Woodland Manager program. We’ll spend time learning to read the landscape and practicing the use of foundational forestry tools.
Before we meet in person, please complete Module 1 and review all required pre‑class materials. These will prepare you for our field activities and ensure you’re ready to fully participate on day one.

- Explain how MWM is a part of Oregon’s land grant university system
- Explain how MWM is part of OSU College of Forestry’s Extension Service
- Describe how forests vary across Northeastern Oregon and how those differences relate to position on the landscape
- Use online sources to identify local climate, terrain, and soil information for their woodland location
- Recognize how soil, terrain, and climate affect how forests on their property grow and develop
