When in the job market choosing the correct position at the correct firm is a big decision to make. Some of the motivating factors behind the decision could be simple such as hours or benefits, but most of the time the main concern for most applicants is the compensation they will receive.
One situation recently where compensation was the main deciding factor for my sister declining a job offer took place. My sister currently works for a news station in Eugene. Her contract is coming to an end and is looking for a new position elsewhere because her pay is more for a starting position which she has now worked out of. She has in the past weeks received two job offers from news stations that’s pay is higher but still not in the range she was looking for. She then made the decision to let these companies know she would not be accepting the job and keep her options open because one the pay for not enough in her eyes and the second reason being she wasn’t sure if she still wanted to work in news. In the past few days she has now received new offers in a the sports field that on average pay higher and is more the work she is looking for. She is not yet to accept any offers yet but has multiple for the PGA tour, the NBA, and Alabama college sports. If she was hasty she would has missed these opportunities that is to her more appealing work and also higher pay which she was looking for.
