Week 2: Job Description

Think of the last job you had. How much did the job description influence your decision to apply for the position? How closely did your experience on the job match the job description? In what ways was it similar and in what ways was it different? If you have it available, please share a copy of the job description in your post.

The position of my last job was as a Gate Operator. Honestly speaking, now that I look back at it, I did not get a copy of the paperwork I signed for the job. There was no description on paper but more of just telling and showing me what I needed to do. At this time, I went to a temp agency to find a job for a short time, and this was the job. They all said it was straightforward, so I took their word for it. That description itself was enough to motivate me. I accepted it so quickly because I know this agency hires people to work in warehouses, but I was looking for a position that did not do any heavy work. Being a gate operator was the best position at the warehouse they hired me. The process of getting this job could have been more lax.

When it comes to experience, I did not have any hard skills, and luckily, the job did not require any. We had to keep track of which trailers came in and out. My interpersonal communication and adaptability skills were used a lot. There were so many moments where I had to make sure others were doing their job and learn new ways to be efficient. Yes, it was easy because you could not make any significant mistakes. You can ask those on the computer if you have made a mistake and they will help you. The job description was outside my expertise, but it was easy to adapt, and I could learn more skills from it.
